For everyone
Accessibility of this archive
This archive should be usable by anyone who wants to see the work of Thijs Sterk — including people with low vision, people using a screen reader and people who do not use a mouse. Below is what has been done and what could still be better.
What has been done
- —Every work has a title, a year and a description in words, so a reading voice can say what is to be seen.
- —The site can be operated from the keyboard. At the top there is a link that skips the menu; it appears as soon as you press Tab.
- —The language of the page is marked in the code, so on the French pages a reading voice switches to French by itself.
- —Buttons without text — the menu button, the help button — carry a name that is read out.
- —Several rooms have spoken tours. They are there for all visitors, as in a museum, but they also help anyone who would rather listen than read.
What could still be better
Many of the 378 works still have no description in words; there a reading voice announces only the title. The archive has not been audited by an independent agency, and in places the contrast between text and background is tighter than the guideline recommends.
